Alternative Valentine’s Weekend Escapes

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, what better way to celebrate than whisking someone off somewhere for the weekend. Even if you’re single, suggest a weekend getaway to a pal!

I’ve collated three alternative weekend escapes for the Valentine’s period; deliberately steering clear of the classics such as Paris, Rome and Venice. These places will be massively over crowded around Valentine’s Day and prices will likewise shoot up.

All three of the destinations below are for trips from Friday 16th to Monday 19th February.

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

During the week, Luxembourg City is busy with the hustle and bustle of banking and EU offices. By weekend though, hotel prices drop and parking is free to attract visitors. The Old Town is a listed Unesco World Heritage Site and it’s not hard to see why with beautifully scenic backdrops. Perfectly quaint for a romantic break.

Marseille, France

Situated in the South of France, Marseille offers the perfect romantic setting. It’s not quite Cannes or St Tropez, but for a fraction of the price it certainly is worth visiting the second biggest city in France.
