Seeking a Sustainable Life

Let’s be real, we don’t treat Earth with the respect it deserves. It offers perfect conditions for life to thrive (with a lil help from the sun) and in return we pollute the air, pollute the land and pollute the oceans. We’re destroying it and we have to change.

This is why I’m on a mission to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Of course, being vegan greatly helps as the meat and dairy industry is the single most worst polluter contributing to climate change. In fact, this was the reason I originally went vegan. My knowledge has increased around the issue over the past couple of years, especially since joining the IKEA Live Lagom project, and I’ve learnt there is certainly more I can do in my strive towards living a sustainable life.

Things I’m doing now

I recently bought some reusable facial cotton pads that can be washed in the washing machine. This has already shown a massive decrease in our bathroom bin waste – I was using three disposables a day! Keep your eyes peeled for my review on these soon!

Bulk cooking is a major winner. Not only saving money and producing less waste, it is great coming home from work and not having to cook.

Plants are a key feature in our flat and we treat them like our children. A great way to incorporate plants into our kitchen and reduce our carbon footprint was to buy herb plants. We bought chives and thyme and will definitely be buying more!

Things for the near future

When payday hits (Jesus, it better hurry up), I’ll be purchasing a moon cup. This is something I’ve literally been considering since I was 12 years old. My BFFs both just bought one though and have given me that final push I need to ditch tampons!

Shampoo and conditioner bars are something I’ll be transitioning to from bottled products. Lush do a variety of vegan, package free bars and I’ll be able to throw them in a carry on bag when travelling!
